2. INSTALLATION

Step 1 – Prepare the Wooden Blocks

Cut wooden blocks from 2×4 or 2×6 scraps – one block for every 2.5′ to 3′ of beam length. Mark the centerline of the beam on the ceiling using a chalk line or laser level.

Step 2- Install the Wooden Blocks

Secure the blocks along the centerline with screws every 3′. If there’s no stud behind a block, use drywall anchors for added support.

Step 3 – Apply Adhesive

Spread construction adhesive along the beam edges that will touch the ceiling.

Step 4 – Position the Beam

Place the beam over the installed blocks and press it firmly against the ceiling.

Step 5 – Secure the Beam

Fasten the beam using either screws or finishing nails.

Installation Tips

Before you begin installing your faux wood beams, here are some pointers and things to consider:

  • Mark Your Block Locations: After securing the wooden blocks to the ceiling, place a piece of masking tape a couple of inches to the side of each block. Once the beam is installed, the blocks will be hidden. The tape will indicate where to insert screws or nails.
  • Choose the Right Screws: Use screws that blend with your beam’s finish (e.g., black screws for dark beams).
  • Prevent Adhesive Squeeze-Out: Apply adhesive away from the outer edge of the beam to prevent excess glue from oozing out.
