Ceiling tiles are usually made of rigid PVC (plastic) sheets or styrofoam.

The tiles are 0.35mm to 0.5mm thick. All the models that start with #TD abbreviations are 0.4mm thick.

The weight of the tiles vary from 200 to 280 gr (7 to 9 oz)

PVC ceiling tiles are somewhat flexible. They can be used on barrel type ceilings and rounded shape walls (except some models).

Yes, PVC ceiling tiles are paintable. They come finished in various colours but can be repainted if needed with any good quality paint. However, in order to repaint them you’ll probably need a sprayer (due to the depth of the design). Check out this video to find out more about the different types of finishes and how to paint ceiling tiles.

The “depth” of the pattern varies from model to model. Some models like #115 or 117 for example are “flatter” than others (1/8″ to 3 /16″). Other patterns, such as #106, are almost 3/4″ deep.

Some models of drop in ceiling tiles have a raised (domed-coffered) shape (VC02,#215; TD03). Models VC02 and #215 are raised almost 1 1/4″ above the grid, TD03 is raised 3″ above the grid.

We don’t sell grid systems. To match the color of your grid to the ceiling tiles, we recommend painting them with the closest matching color.

Yes, PVC tiles are fire rated and can be used in commercial spaces like restaurants, hotels and residential spaces.

Depending on the type of design you want, PVC and styrofoam tiles are the best solution for your ceiling. They can be installed via the glue up or drop in method and can cover up any type of damage on your ceiling. Styrofoam tiles can even be used to cover up popcorn ceilings. The tiles are extremely durable, and require virtually no maintenance.

Yes, most of the tiles can be made in custom colors. We recommend that you buy samples before you order because custom painted tiles are non-refundable.

INSTALLATION

It is very easy to install ceiling tiles and you don’t need any installation experience.

What you’ll need:

  • Some chalk
  • Adhesive
  • Scissors
  • Step ladder
  • Measuring tape

STEP 1: PREPARATION

Remove any loose paint, wallpaper and plaster and draw a chalk line in the middle of the room (preferably through a light fixture electrical box).

STEP 2: APPLY THE ADHESIVE

We recommend using solvent based Contact Cement (by DAP Weldwood Original formula or Lepage for Canadian customers).

STEP 3: INSTALL THE FIRST TILE

Start from the middle of the room. Position the first tile so that it covers one quarter of the light box. Cut off the overlapping part.

STEP 4: INSTALL THE FIRST ROW

Move your way to the inside following the chalk line from step 1. Try to be as straight as possible.

STEP 5: WORK YOUR WAY TO THE SIDES

First install whole tiles. Do the cutting last.

The easiest way to decorate a ceiling is to either paint or install ceiling tiles. Ceiling tiles come in a wide variety of designs and patterns so you can choose which one you prefer for your home or commercial space.

The best and easiest way to hide a damaged ceiling is to install ceiling tiles. You can cover up water damage or anything else. All you need is glue and a pair of scissors.

An old ceiling can be updated and improved by installing ceiling tiles. You can choose between a variety of different styles and install them within just a couple of hours.

A basement ceiling can be decorated by installing ceiling tiles. Since basements are usually damp and dark, ceiling tiles can help improve the appearance, but also keep the space looking good for a long time. PVC ceiling tiles are moisture resistant, which means they can last long in humid areas such as basements, bathrooms and others.

Of course. You can paint ceiling tiles in any colour you want.

Old ceiling tiles can be painted just as you would paint a regular ceiling. However, some designs are deeper than others, so you might have to use spray paint instead of paint rollers.

PVC ceiling tiles could be used practically in any type of indoor space – residential or commercial. Since they are moisture resistant, they are perfect for areas with high humidity such as basements and bathrooms. They also look great in small areas such as hallways. Check out this video of how we installed ceiling tiles in this small hallway, the results are amazing.

The glue up tiles cannot hold themselves in the grids (will fold in the middle) , however still can be used in the grids. They can be glued to the existing drop tiles (will use them as a support). When ordering the glue up tiles for the drop in application it is important to let us know how you’ll use them – we’ll trim the tiles for you, so they will fit the grids.

PVC  ceiling tiles shouldn’t be exposed to direct sunlight and we don’t recommend using them in places where temperatures can drop below freezing.

PVC tiles are water/moisture proof and could be used in bathrooms. Here’s a video that shows how you can install ceiling tiles in such small spaces.

Even though both types are made of the same material, drop in tiles are self supportive in the grids due to their structural and geometrical design, while glue-up tiles will fold and fall out if placed in drop ceiling grids.

Most drop in PVC tiles can also be glued up ( on drywall ceilings for example). There are only three models that can not be glued up and are made to be used in grids only (#215, VC02 and TD03).

Please consult with us when planning installations of this kind. Many glue up PVC tiles cannot support themselves in the grid. Glue up tiles can be glued over existing drop in tiles (standard office tiles) and installed in the grids. Regular drop in tiles will provide necessary support for PVC glue up tiles.

The only tiles that can be glued over the popcorn are Polystyrene ones. To install the PVC tiles, you’ll have to scrape off the popcorn first.

Yes, you can. However, this task can be quite tricky, which is why we made a quick video tutorial on how to do it properly without damaging the tiles. Check it out here.

Drop in PVC tiles cannot support the weight of light fixtures on their own – due to the fact that light fixtures should be installed in a supporting panel (regular ceiling tile or plywood board) that will be laid in a grid above our decorative ceiling tile.

Just like with any other type of tile or floor installation – it is always a good idea to have some extra tiles in case you need them. For simple shaped rooms (square or rectangular) you should have at least 10%-15% more, for irregular shaped rooms you should have roughly around 15%-20% extra. Please keep in mind that, just like for wallpaper rolls, it is always recommended to order the tiles from the same batch (especially for Antique finishes). If you order extra 2-3 tiles a couple of months later, they may be slightly different in color than the ones you’ve ordered before.

Our PVC tiles do not require any type of joint filler. All models are installed by overlapping edges ( approximately 1/4″ wide). Once the tiles are installed, joints become virtually invisible as the edges become part of the design.

For the glue up application, we recommend using solvent based Contact Cement (by DAP Weldwood Original formula or Lepage for Canadian customers). To glue the drop-in tiles to the existing drop in tiles Liquid Nails or PL construction adhesive could be used. Water based contact cement is not recommended for any type of installation of this material.

Most drop ceilings have areas where you only need part of the tile. In cases like that, drop in PVC tiles can be cut to size and installed directly into the grid. Alternatively our backsplash roll material can be used as fillers – it will need to be glued over regular drop ceiling tiles.

Even though some of our customers have used PVC tiles as a backsplash we do NOT recommend to do so. The tiles made of thin and flexible PVC sheet and the raised parts of the tiles’ patterns may be too fragile for that purpose.
