VIDEO: Comparing Fire Rated Ceiling Tiles from Talissa Decor vs Others
Here at Talissa Decor, we take safety very seriously. That’s why we strive to provide our customers with as much information about safety as possible. Our styrofoam ceiling tiles are lined with a protective coating to slow the spread of fire, and the test reports are published on our fire rating page.
What the Video Compares
The video puts one of our coated styrofoam tiles next to a plain styrofoam tile bought from a competitor and exposes both to a flame, so you can see for yourself the difference the fire coating makes.
The Numbers Behind the Demo
Independent testing was done on our RM24 tile sample and on the competitor sample. From the published reports:
- Talissa Decor RM24: Flame Spread Index 5, Smoke Developed Index 30.
- Competitor sample: Flame Spread Index 10, Smoke Developed Index 165.
A lower number is better on both scales. The smoke figure is the one to pay attention to, since smoke is what makes a room dangerous long before the flames do. The full reports are linked on the fire rating page.
How to Check a Tile Before You Buy
- Ask for the test report, not just the words “fire rated”. A report names the standard, the lab and the indexes.
- Compare the Flame Spread Index and Smoke Developed Index between products, not just the marketing claim.
- Check the Fire Rating tab on the product page, since the rating can differ between collections.
- Confirm with your local building inspector that the rating meets the code for the room you’re finishing. Requirements vary by jurisdiction.
