COMMON CEILING TILE INSTALLATION MISTAKES

Ceiling tiles are fantastic for any home or business. Not only do they add style, but they can help create a theme and reflect your personality. The best part of all is that faux tin, faux leather, and Styrofoam ceiling tiles are all really lightweight which makes them that much easier to install yourself. Of course, as with any DIY project, mistakes can occur. Here are some of the most common ceiling tile installation mistakes and how to avoid them.

Poor planning

Once you have calculated the total size of the ceiling, you will be able to establish how many ceiling tiles you need. Remember, different tiles come in different sizes which will determine how many tiles you need. It’s also a good idea to order a few extra tiles just in case some need to be cut to size or in the event that an error or damage occurs during installation. Once you have your tiles, you might be tempted to start installing them right away. Resist the temptation to skip the important step of planning the layout. Once you have removed all ceiling fixtures, it’s time to measure and determine the central point. Make chalk lines along the length and breadth of your ceiling to ensure that all of your tiles line up perfectly.

Tile damage

Ceiling tiles are not particularly thick which means that they do need to be handled with a certain degree of care. If they are handled harshly, dropped, or stood on, they can be irreparably damaged. It’s important to set your tiles in a safe spot out of the way and install them one at a time. Make sure that you are standing on a stable surface or ladder during the installation process.

Rush jobs

Doing any job right means taking the necessary time to ensure that it is done properly. Rushing leads to mistakes and imperfections. Take the time to line up each tile as you install it. If one tile is misplaced, it will cause all subsequent tiles to be improperly fitted as well.

Not adjusting fixtures

Since your ceiling is slightly lower than it was originally, it’s important to adjust your fixtures accordingly. Your lights should never be located too close to the ceiling for obvious reasons.

Using the wrong adhesive

Different types of ceiling tiles require different adhesives to secure them in place. If you use the wrong adhesive, it can severely damage the tile. Although the adhesive is applied to the back of the tile, some substances are so powerful that they can warp and damage the outer appearance of the tile as well. The best thing to do is ask your ceiling tile provider for their professional recommendations and advice.
